I have a Supercharged Range Rover this weekend. Where's a good place to do some light off-roading in Northern New Jersey, nearish to Morris County if possible? I'm trusting you all for some unknown reason.

The Hudson River, you know for amphibious testing, science and shit.

Light off-roading, just go to Bergen County, pick a trail in the mountains. Pine Barrens also.

Pine Barrens and Waretown State Park are the best. A bit far but they get the job done.

Good luck! I owned an RRS a few years back and went searching for good trails or offroad locations around DC. I was pretty unsuccessful, so hopefully Jersey has better options.

If they haven't cleaned it all up yet, Take it to Bay Head and drive the beach. There were some pretty big dunes after Sandy.

I see a lot of them at outlet malls

Large construction sites are usually closed on the weekends. They can be fun.
Also see: Tree farms. They usually have some good trails.

No need for offroading. Just see how fast you can go over speed bumps!

You might be able to get permission from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst to use their tank trails. I used to go out there when I ran Ground Combat Training for the Air Force and I understand that they have allowed civilians to use it.
You might be able to sell the Public Affairs folks by showing how tough their training trails are for service members preparation before going to Afghanistan, etc... They might like some good press. Who knows, maybe they'll send a few MRAPs or MAT-Vs along with you.

Question, will this test drive be unlimited or limited.

Doubtful that they'd do it with such short notice, but that's a really good idea!

I would see how many tanned jersey shore freaks you can run over maybe build some jumps with them?

Never forget, they need to show to their senior leaders and Congressional delegations that their site is critical and should never be shutdown or have any budget cuts. Trust me, I was in the middle of this type of thing for a long time.

Lots and lots of NH/VT/ upstate NY Rover clubs, they'd know places further afield if you could stretch.

Still, gotta get all the muckymucks to sign off on it at 2pm on a Friday.
I doubt that will happen.

True. But perhaps it's something Travis should consider for a future test, maybe the Cherokee Trailhawk. Top Gear does some of its best work with the military.

Yep. And he might be able to use this call to get a timeline for the next time.
Gotta call 3 weeks in advance to allow enough time to get it approved.
2 weeks prior, have to have ID information to the PA Office so those coming can get on base
1 week prior...
Travis. Hardibro. You have your mission.

And I'd be glad to talk to folks out there I know.

Not sure about North Jersey, but I know that the NELRC guys take their rigs down South Jersey and there are some decent trails down there. Let me know if you want more information on that.
Also, there is Rausch Creek out in PA, and also I know people love to go "off roading" out in the Hamptons.

Also you should totally film it.
